What is 17-4 Precipitation Hardening Stainless Steel?
Grade 17-4 stainless steel, often referred to as 630 precipitation hardening stainless steel.
Grade 17-4 stainless steel is a precipitation hardened martensitic stainless steel consisted of copper, niobium and tantalum. It is also referred to as the UNS S17400/W.Nr. 1.4542 alloy.
Hardening is achieved by a short-time, simple low-temperature treatments. Unlike conventional martensitic stainless steels, such as type 410, grade 17-4 is more weldable.
It is widely used in pulp and paper industry, aerospace, mechanical components, nuclear waste barrel, surgical instruments and more.
Grade 17-4 stainless steel is available in all standard mill forms including pipe, rod, bar, plate, sheet, strip and foil products.
