What is 410S Martensitic Stainless Steel?
Grade 410S stainless steel is a kind of martensitic stainless steel, a lower carbon variant of stainless steel 410.
This grade stainless steel is designated for ease of fabrication.
Grade 410S is also referred to as the UNS S41008/W.Nr. 1.4000 stainless steel.
Here “S” stands for special low carbon content, limiting the material’s ability to harden. The low hardenability keeps 410S stainless steel from cracking when welded or exposed to high temperatures.
Unlike 410 stainless steel, 410S presents complete ferritic structure and magnetism under annealed condition.
Setting mechanical properties apart, 410S stainless steel exhibits similar corrosion resistance to that of 410 stainless steel and has good oxidation resistance.
Grade 410S stainless steel is widely used in knife blades, scissors, and other kitchen utensils.
Grade 410S stainless steel is available in the form of pipe, round bar, wire, plate, strip and foil section.
